After enjoying freedom all summer, heading back to school can be a difficult transition. While this change in routine can be especially tough on children, it shouldn’t be tough on their feet. Many children and teens spend their summer vacation in flip-flops but when it’s time to return to school, these casual sandals can lead to aches, pains and an increased risk of injury.
Children have a growth plate in their heels that continues to grow into their mid-teenage years. While flip-flops offer casual comfort, they do not cushion the heel which makes repetitive stress from walking particularly harmful, causing inflammation to the bone growth area, pain and tenderness.
Common problems from flip-flops:
Heel and Arch Pain -Inflammation of the Achilles Tendon
Painful and Pinched Nerves - Sprained Ankles
Broken or Sprained Toes - Cuts and Scrapes
Plantar Warts - Athlete’s Foot
Callus Build-up on the Heels and Toes
If your child is complaining of foot pain, schedule an appointment with my office. This type of pain can usually be eliminated with simple methods including stretching, ice message, anti-inflammatory medications or shoe inserts.
Regenerative Medicine is using medical procedures that promote self-healing. Swift treatment for warts was approved by the FDA in late 2018. The procedure was developed in Scotland and has been used in the United Kingdom for several years. I have been using the Swift treatment for warts for several months. What is Swift and how does it work? Swift microwave is designed to promote your local immune response and allow your body to heal itself. Swift treatment results in a degree of localized tissue stress promoting a healing response, recruiting antibodies and stimulating a heat shock production. Swift treatment of warts has shown positive results for my patients. I have seen as many as twenty-three warts resolve as a result of the Swift treatment. No medication, no bandages and non-invasive. You can find out more on the Plantar Wart Therapy page on my website.
